Camp Out for Climate

A gathering of local climate activists to share our passion, energy, love, rage, and demand zero net emissions by 2030.

By XR Northern Illawarra

Date and time

Starts on Sat, 17 Apr 2021 11:00 AM AEST

Location

W F Jackson Park

310 Lawrence Hargrave Drive Thirroul, NSW 2515 Australia

About this event

Join us from 11.00 am on Saturday 17 April for a day of love and rage: kids activities, letter-writing, an extinct species graveyard, a Mud Fun musical mud stomp, and an exciting lineup of speakers and musicians including Prof. Tim Flannery from the Climate Council (See full program below).

We will occupy WF Jackson Park in Thirroul (opposite the Catholic church), and call on the federal government to declare a climate emergency and set a target of zero net emissions by 2030.

BYO:

  • Water bottle
  • Packed meals and snacks OR reusable container and cutlery (food will be available to purchase from local cafes/restaurants)
  • A face mask (in case things get crowded)
  • A picnic blanket or rug
  • Sunscreen and a hat
  • T-shirts/signs/banners/props demanding climate justice (help us create some great photo opportunities!)

We'd love for this to be a zero-waste event. You’re invited to bring anything you’d like - food, games, activities, props etc - as long is it doesn’t end up in the trash at the end of the day.

If you can, why not ride your bike! There'll be plenty of bike parking onsite.

There is no cost to attend the Camp Out, but please register in advance (for all members of your household/group) so we can plan accordingly.

XR Northern Illawarra acknowledges the Dharawal people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which this event will be held. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. This is, was, and always will be Aboriginal land.

See you at the Camp Out!

Love the XR Northern Illawarra team. x

NOTE: This is a COVID-Safe Event. In line with our COVID Safety Plan, we'll be asking households to practice social distancing and - where that isn't possible - to wear masks. We'll also be monitoring how many people are present at any given time and potentially asking people to leave and come back later if overcrowding becomes an issue.
